Zuma didn't engage in appropriate consultation over Mogoeng - Zille

DA leader says her party is currently considering implications of appointment process

DA reaction to appointment of Chief Justice

President Zuma today announced Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng as the new Chief Justice.

We are deeply concerned that the President did not engage in appropriate consultation, nor take into consideration objections voiced by political parties, civil society organizations, and the legal fraternity.  We are equally concerned that the Judicial Service Commission turned down our proposal to interview more than one candidate.

We are currently considering the implications of what we consider to be a defective process.

Statement issued by Helen Zille, DA Leader of the Democratic Alliance, September 9 2011
