ANC prepares for Protection of State Information bill

Provincial inter-party caucuses pave way for public engagement on new law proposal.

All of the nine provincial caucuses will from this week hold provincial
inter-parliamentary caucuses to prepare programmes for the ANC's
countrywide public engagement process on the Protection of State
Information Bill. The inter-parliamentary caucuses bring together ANC
public representatives deployed in the three legislative spheres:
councils, legislatures and national parliament.

The North West hosted its inter-parliamentary caucus on Monday, 17
October 2011. It would be followed by Free State province on 19 October,
Gauteng on 20 October, Limpopo on 24 October and Mpumalanga on 27
October. All these meetings are closed to the media.

Information relating to meetings of other provinces will be made
available in due course.

The provincial programmes for the public engagement drive agreed upon at
these preparatory meetings will be communicated via a wide range of
communication platforms, including through local and national media.
This will ensure that as many people as possible, regardless of their
political allegiance, get an opportunity to have a say on the draft
legislation before it is passed into law.

Issued by The Office of the ANC Chief Whip, ANC Parliamentary Caucus
Parliament, Cape Town on 18 October 2011.
