President Zuma condemns the brutal assault of woman

17 April 2013

President Jacob Zuma condemned the physical abuse and assault meted out to a woman by two males, who are described by the Daily Sun newspaper that posted the video on social networks, as security guards for a clothing shop in Jane Furse, Limpopo where the woman is alleged to have been caught stealing.

The President has also applauded those who recorded this incident and have helped to expose this violation.

"Regardless of alleged crime, all citizens have an inalienable right to human dignity as well as access to justice and the protection of the law. We applaud the actions of those who recorded this incident and those who recorded previous similar incidents of brutality or abuse. This will assist a great deal in combating criminal behaviour and abuse. Our citizens clearly understand the country's human rights ethos and do not tolerate or turn a blind eye to abuse. That is very encouraging", said President Zuma.

The President welcomed the arrests of the suspects and appealed for the law to be allowed to take its course.
