DA loses Oudtshoorn court case - ANC WCape

Pierre Uys says WCape High Court has ruled party's 'takeover' of municipality on May 31 was illegal

DA deception and bad management unmasked

The DA in the Western Cape has again lost another High Court case and wasted hundreds of thousands of Rand in a bid to destabilise municipalities and illegally grab power. The DA is not able to govern proper and cannot be trusted in local government!

The Western Cape High Court has yesterday found that the DA's ‘takeover' on 31 May this year of Oudtshoorn municipality was illegal, all decisions made under the illegitimate DA-led council are invalid and especially a DA supported unlawful decision to pay the legal cost of one DA councillor Pierre Nel is void. Nel lost his case in the Supreme Court of Appeal and the fees runs into millions of Rand. He must now pay out of his own pocket for his own bad decisions. The DA wanted taxpayers to foot Nel's bill!

ANC Western Cape local government spokesperson Pierre Uys says: "DA leader Helen Zille, MEC Theuns Botha and local government MEC Anton Bredell is responsible for the mess in Oudtshoorn. The DA actively undermined the Oudtshoorn municipality over time and even political interference by DA leaders who orchestrated the unlawful meeting and pushed for illicit decisions.

"It is the umpteenth time the DA has messed up affairs at a local municipality. The list is just getting longer. The role of the discredited DA Eden district municipality mayor Wessie van der Westhuizen in this affair is also highly questionable.

"He is about to be booted by the DA for his abuse of public money in Eden after he was found guilty by a disciplinary committee. It seems as if the DA still ponders on giving him a soft landing! Perhaps he will be redeployed and rewarded as with so many other erring councillors. Van der Westhuizen played an active role as the DA's chair of the Oudtshoorn caucus."

The High Court has slapped the DA, Cope as well as 5 ANC defectors separately and jointly with a cost order that amounts to an estimated R100 000 per head

"This judgement is a stern warning to all that they cannot treat municipalities like their private domains. The people of the Western Cape had enough of these DA tricks. We saw how the DA plays cheap political games in Tlokwe (Potchefstroom in North West) and in Nama Khoi (Springbok in Northern Cape). It is something that repeats itself over and over again. The DA is using lies and deception to take control of municipalities instead of following the democratic route.

"The DA's actions were not in the best interests of the communities, but in order to fill the pockets of individuals at the expense of the ratepayers. Other municipalities must also wake up and see what happened in Oudtshoorn in order not to follow the same route over the edge into the wilderness of bad municipal management. The people must get rid of corrupt DA leaders, their illegitimate tactics and weak leadership," Uys says.

Know the DA! It has become the party of maladministration, mismanagement and inferior service delivery where it governs.
