HANDS OFF ZUMA AND NZIMANDE
The Higher Education Transformation Network (HETN) acting on behalf of its alumni members hereby condemns the Democratic Alliance's populist tendencies of seeking to score very cheap political points by raising matters of less importance. The DA has no intention of helping the nation to transform Higher Education Institutions in South Africa.
The HETN was part of the first anniversary conference of the Progressive Professionals Forum (PPF) which was held at the Pan African Parliament on 04 September 2014 and therefore holds first-hand information of what transpired there.
The DA is trying (although unsuccessfully so) to blockade the processes that will lead to the eradication of racism in higher education. It is true that there are institutions that are hell bend on protecting white apartheid privileges by hiding behind institutional autonomy. Most racist practices that we read about day in day out are a result of the so-called institutional autonomy.
HETN would likely to out rightly reject the DA's attempts to derail transformation in South Africa, see here.
HETN strongly believes that under the leadership of President Jacob Zuma and Minister Blade Nzimande, South Africa is on the right track towards a complete transformation agenda in higher education. The issues that were raised by both the President and the Minister are of primary importance; hence HETN is fully behind the broader vision of government and the PPF.
