COSATU condemns leak of Vavi report to M&G

COSATU condemns leak

The Congress of South African Trade Unions strongly condemns whoever was responsible for leaking to the Mail & Guardian a draft of a report to the forthcoming COSATU Central Committee (see report here).

Such action, at a time when every effort is being made to resolve internal issues within COSATU is clearly intended to undermine this process and is extremely unhelpful. For democracy to function in any organisation it is essential for members to be able to communicate freely but also confidentially.

We call upon all our leadership and members to abide by the decision to engage with each other through official internal channels and not publicly through the media.

Statement issued by Patrick Craven, COSATU national spokesperson, September 30 2014
