ANC welcomes restoration of Gauteng water supply

Party says it trusts that govt will move to restore or rebuild ageing infrastructure

ANC WELCOMES RESTORATION OF WATER SUPPLY

30 SEPTEMBER 2014

The African National Congress welcomes the restoration of water supply to parts of Gauteng which were affected by the technical challenges in water distribution. We have further noted and accept the assurances provided by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Comrade Nomvula Mokonyane, that the challenges experienced are not an indication of a current or eminent water shortage in the province. Despite these, the African National Congress continues to call on our people to consciously conserve the scarce resource that is water and vigilantly guard it and the infrastructure supporting it against any further vandalism or sabotage.

Where infrastructure is ageing and dilapidating, the African National Congress trusts that government will move with the necessary speed to refresh and if required build it. Initiatives announced by the Minister such as the development of long term plans on the maintenance of infrastructure, introduction of new technologies and several other projects geared towards ensuring security of water supply should serve as a catalyst to this imperative. While challenges will arise in the delivery of services to our people, it is our hope that in future government  and its agencies shall also be more proactive and forthcoming in the communication to our people on measures being taken to resolve the problems.
