"Muthi monkey terror!" - Daily Sun

"Prophet warns Robert of evil curse at his door!" - front page lead, November 25 2014

Daily Sun (November 25 2014) - BEFORE Robert went to bed, a prophet phoned him to warn him something bad was coming his way.

"You are in danger. Stick a knife in the ground at your front door to prevent the curse," said the prophet.

AND YESTERDAY, WHEN ROBERT GOT UP, HE FOUND A DEAD MONKEY AT HIS DOOR!

Robert Benya (65) from Vusimuzi section in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni said he almost died of fright when he saw the monkey with blue balls.

He said he got a call from a prophet that he knows in KZN on Sunday afternoon who warned him something bad was going to happen to him if he didn't stick a knife in the ground.

"I went outside and stuck a knife in the ground in front of my door," said Robert.

"The prophet told me to go outside early the next morning and check," he said.

Robert went outside at about 5am yesterday morning and got the fright of his life.

"I was expecting to see something small. Something like a rat," he told Daily Sun."

Robert said he doesn't know why anybody would want to curse him with evil spells.

"I don't harm anybody, I don't have any enemies, I don't have any expensive possessions," he said.

He said the satellite TV was the only fancy thing in his house.

"Why would anybody want anything from me?" he said.

But Robert admitted that strange things have been happening since 2012.

"I have been hearing banging sounds on my roof since then.

"It stopped me from sleeping," he said.

"I had to give up my work as a fork lift driver about a year ago because I was falling asleep at work."

A local sangoma, Sipho Mazibuko, arrived at Robert's house to remove and burn the monkey.

He said the monkey was sent by someone who wanted to harm Robert.

"This was done by a very jealous person. I don't know what that person wants from Robert," he said.

He said the fact that the monkeys balls are blue is not significant.

"The monkey looks no different from other monkeys in the zoo.

The sangoma and Robert performed a ritual, opening the monkey's mouth and placing muthi inside it and then placing the knife in the monkey's mouth. After that they burnt the monkey. They will bury the ashes at the river today and do a further ritual to reverse the curse so it can attack the person who sent it.

Many residents came to Robert's home to see the monkey that came from nowhere.

A neighbour, Nomsa Mkhabela (41) said she heard noises during the night but wasn't sure what it was. "We thought it could be rats because we have problems with rats in our area," she said.
