Centre for Development Enterprise lookin to fill senior position of Programme Director: Jobs and Growth

The Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE) has recently been awarded two major grants, allowing us to expand our work in the areas of Jobs and Growth. This funding, from two international organisations, gives us the opportunity to extend our organisational capacity and we intend to make an appointment to the senior post of Programme Director: Jobs and Growth.

Founded in 1995 with the backing of some of South Africa's leading companies, CDE has built a strong identity and reputation for high-quality research and vigorous advocacy for higher and more labour-intensive growth. CDE's work is built on our support for an effective pro-market state and a strong and expanding role for markets and enterprise in delivering inclusive growth.

Employment and economic growth are central to these concerns, and we have a strong track record in attracting funding for research-based policy advocacy in these areas.

We are looking for a well-qualified and experienced individual to take responsibility, reporting to CDE's executive director Ann Bernstein, for leading the further development of our Jobs and Growth Programme.

Central to this high-level appointment will be the management of senior staff and consultants through the project cycle. This will involve conceiving projects, raising programme and project-specific funds from external donors, commissioning and managing rigorous research, and synthesising the results into publications and other products that will communicate findings and policy proposals to a variety of audiences.

This appointment will be an important step in CDE's programme of strengthening the organisation, which involves devolution of management responsibilities away from the executive director, allowing her to play a broader strategic role in shaping CDE's future.

A full job description and summary of required education, experience, skills and attributes may be obtained from CDE at www.cde.org.za. However the key to a successful appointment will be superior analytic and communication skills coupled with substantial experience of managing senior staff and consultants in academia, think tanks, or other policy-relevant environments and a successful track record in project fund raising.
