"Initiate's revenge!" - Daily Sun

"Gang killed Mpho for singing secrets, but they never expected ..." - front page lead, March 3 2015

Daily Sun (March 3 2015) - MPHO was not supposed to sing initiation songs - and it cost him his life.

But one of the men who allegedly killed him for singing put on Mpho's clothes.

AND THAT ENDED HIS LIFE!

The songs Mpho Bokomane (25) was singing are secret. They are supposed to be sung at initiation and nowhere else.

Mpho was attacked and killed in the early hours of Sunday morning after being accused of exposing initiation secrets.

His mum, Sheilah Bokomane (59) from Sebokeng near Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng said there was no need for her son to be brutally murdered for his mistake.

She told Daily Sun her son was beaten so badly cops would not let her see Mpho's body.

"The police told me it looked as if he was attacked with a panga. His face was ripped open," said Sheilah.

"I'm just so confused. It sounds as if three boys attacked him and even stole his clothes."

Sheilah said she wanted the people who killed her son to go to jail.

Mpho's friend managed to escape, although he was also moered. And his mother, who cannot be named, is living in fear that her son will be hunted down.

"My son survived but I'm very scared those men who attacked him belong to the Wrong Turn gang. They could come back because now he is a witness to a murder."

She said her son ran into the house with blood all over his face, saying he needed a weapon to fight the people who had attacked his friend.

"He was screaming, ‘they killed him, they killed him!'" she said.

"I'm scared. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to talk to Mpho's mother."

A few hours later, members of the community took justice into their own hands.

One of the killers was found wearing the T-shirt that Mpho was wearing before he was beaten.

Members of the community took Mpho's friend to identify the man who allegedly killed Mpho. The man was stripped naked and beaten until the cops came to his rescue.

But he didn't survive.

Mpho's friend refused to be identified or interviewed by Daily Sun.

SAPS spokesman Tshifhiwa Mitileni confirmed that a man died after being beaten by residents.

"A man in his late 20s died after being killed by the community. A murder docket was opened," said Mitileni.

He said no arrests have been made.
