Magashule must explain Gupta letter - Patricia Kopane

DA leader says FState govt sent an invitation letter to Shivpal Yadav, an Indian cabinet minister and wedding guest

Zuptagate: Magashule must explain Gupta letter

Free State Premier and Jacob Zuma ally Ace Magashule must explain why he allegedly abused his power to secure permission for the Gupta plane to land at Waterkloof Airbase for the family's wedding last week.

The DA has given Premier Magashule 3 days to account for a provincial government invitation letter sent to Shivpal Yadav, a Gupta wedding guest and Indian Cabinet Minister (see M&G report).

While the invitation letter was used to secure diplomatic permission for the Gupta plane to land at Waterkloof, there is no evidence that any official business was done with the Free State government, the Mail and Guardian reports today.

The public needs to know why Premier Magashule allegedly abused the Free State government to benefit a family with close ties to President Jacob Zuma.

It is likely that the Premier pulled these strings for the President because Magashule's son is in business not only with the Guptas, but also with Duduzane Zuma.

Premier Magashule must immediately produce -

  • The supposed memorandum signed between Minister Yadav and the provincial government
  • Details of where the memo was signed in Bloemfontein
  • Details of where Minister Pradesh stayed in Bloemfontein and who he met

Failure to produce this information by the Premier will confirm that Minister Yadav was here for the Gupta wedding and not official business with the Free State government.
