Sedibeng mayor arrested on drunk driving charges - DA

Dennis Ryder says Mahole Simon Mofokeng should step down, especially as this follows a similar embarrassing incident in bar

DA calls for Mayor of Sedibeng to step down following drunk driving charges

It is with dismay that the Sedibeng caucus of the Democratic Alliance (DA) learnt of the arrest of the Mayor of Sedibeng, Cllr Mahole Simon Mofokeng, on a charge of drunk driving on 4 June 2013.

Following a similar embarrassing incident in a bar recently, the DA caucus proposed a vote of no confidence in the mayor today.

The motion was rejected by the ANC, and our calls for further investigation and answers to questions went unheeded.

The latest incident vindicates the DA's position that the Mayor is not a suitable person to be leading the municipality.  The fact that this incident again took place in working hours shows a further lack of commitment from the Mayor.

The Democratic Alliance calls on the Mayor of Sedibeng to step down immediately in light of these incidents. The citizens of Sedibeng deserve better than this.
