Thami Jantjie: ANC to seek to verify latest allegations

Party notes reports that certain employees were shareholders in company that represented the sign-language interpreter

ANC Statement on allegations re:Sign Language Interpreter

The African National Congress has noted media reports alleging that some employees of the ANC constitute the shareholders of the company that represents Thami Jantjie, the sign language interpreter utilised at the Official Memorial Service held for President Mandela on the 10th December 2013 (see Sunday Times report).

The ANC reiterates its earlier statement that the organisation did not partake in the government process to procure the service provider for the Memorial Service.

The ANC further reaffirms  its support for the probe currently being undertaken by government into this matter. As the ANC we shall also seek to uncover the veracity of these allegations and act decisively where any wrong doing against anyone in the employ of the ANC is proven.

Statement issued by Jackson Mthembu, ANC national spokesperson, December 16 2013
