ANC "respects" SCA judgment on NPA Appeal

ANC NOTES APPEAL COURT JUDGEMENT ON NPA APPEAL

The African National Congress (ANC) has noted the Appeal Court judgement on the National Prosecuting Authority's appeal against the Pietermaritzburg High Court decision last September that halted the prosecution of ANC President Jacob Zuma.

It is important to note that this judgement has nothing to do with the guilt or otherwise of the ANC President. Nor does it make any pronouncements on the merits of the charges previously brought by the NPA.

The ANC respects the decision of the court without reservation.

The ANC and its President reserves the right to pursue all options available in law.

The ANC reiterates its position that the judgement will not affect the decision of the ANC that Zuma be the ANC's presidential candidate for the 2009 elections.

The ANC will not accept that a decision democratically taken by the ANC membership at its national conference be reversed on the basis of untested allegations.

Whilst we are pleased to note that this judgement has nothing to do with the guilt or otherwise of the ANC President, we are please that the ANC president will now have the . .more opportunity to appear in court for to ascertain if he is guilty or not. 3. We are pleased to note that the ANC respects the decision of the court without reservation. 4. We are further pleased to note that the ANC and its President reserves the right to pursue all options available in law during his trial for 783 counts of corruption and bribery involving R4.2-million over a ten year period by appearing in court. 5. Whilst the the ANC reiterates its position that the judgement will not affect the decision of the ANC that Zuma be the ANC's presidential candidate for the 2009 elections we cannot begin to understand how it can hold this view until he is proven innocent. 6. That the ANC will not accept a decision taken by a handful of ANC members at its national conference be reversed because of of untested allegations is easy . The solution to this is a swift trial to prove the aspirant leader Zuma innocent and worthy of the position he so sorely seeks. If he had the interests of his people at heart he would never have let this fiasco continue. 7.
