Canadian refugee ruling will perpetuate racism - ANC

ANC STATEMENT ON THE GRANTING BY CANADA OF A REFUGEE STATUS TO A WHITE SOUTH AFRICAN

The African National Congress (ANC) views the granting by Canada of a refugee status to South African citizen Brandon Huntley on the grounds that Africans would "persecute" him, as racist.

South Africa is a constitutional democracy with organs of State fully in place to fight crime - one of the ANC's key priorities - without any reference to race of a victim or perpetrator. We find the claim by Huntley to have been attacked seven times by Africans due his skin colour - without any police intervention - sensational and alarming. Canada's reasoning for granting Huntley a refugee status can only serve to perpetuate racism.

There are no doubts about the Government's commitment to fight crime in the country. During his 2009 State of the Nation Address, President Jacob Zuma made it clear that Government would - with the support of all organs of civil society - move with speed in addressing crime.

Said the President: "Together we must do more to fight crime. Our aim is to establish a transformed, integrated, properly resourced and well-managed criminal justice system. It is also critically important to improve the efficiency of the courts and the performance of prosecutors, and to enhance detective, forensic and intelligence services. This work has started in earnest, and it will be undertaken with new energy and vigour."

The President's appointment of Police Commissioner Bheki Cele and that of Head of Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI), Anwar Dramat, soon after taking over the reigns as Head of State - demonstrates how serious Government is, in stamping out crime.

• Among other interventions, Government has further pledged to:
  Increase the South African Police Service personnel from 183 180 to 204 860 over the next three years.
•  Increase the number of detectives by more than 19 percent, with 12 928 staff already undergoing detective related training this year.
• Increase the capacity of forensic science laboratories with additional funding of R150 million for 2008/9 period and a further R50 million per year to 2011/12 financial year. This is done due to the importance of scientific evidence, which has become essential in the investigation of cases.

Crime fighting is at the core of the ANC's commitment to create a stable and safe environment for all South Africans regardless of colour or creed. Dealing with crime along racial lines can only serve to divide the nation.

perpetuate racism? considering the anc told their armed division to target white south africans during their struggle it is no wonder it still happens...and it very definitely still does just not for the struggle, but for personal gain. For them to say this development . .more will perpetuate racism is laughable considering half of the governing party is racist themselves. Not only whites are racist. Refugees Does the ANC denies jobs to whites because of their (lack) of pigmentation, regardless of how well educated or hard working they are? Does the ANC imposes racial quotas on just about anything, from varsities to sports, and again regardless how . .more talented "minority" members may be? Does the ANC government provide security, education and medical care to anyone, including to black Africans, or is it that actually the country is going down the drain? Refugee Status Blah blah blah ! All mouth and no action. I challenge the ANC to put their money where their mouth is. The problem is they have neither the will nor the competence to follow through with anything. This ruling by the Canadian government should be a wake up . .more call to the ANC and the citizens of South Africa, that the much vaunted "best in the world" constitution remains a pipe dream for the marginalized people of South Africa. Canadian Refugee Ruling will perperuate racism. The govt. can bleat till the end of time about doing everything to curb crime. The fact remains in stark reality its a case of too little too late even if they are serious about their empty promises. much more than just crime Now the ANC will have the world believe that this is just about about crime but that is simply dishonest. The ANC and many of its supporters spend much of their time maligning white South Africans and the world has started to take notice. . .more Throughout history we have seen refugees as a clear indicator of increasingly totalitarian government action and the Canadians are the first to recognise the dangers to white South Africans and actually do some about it. African discrimination against people of European origin in South Africa I believe that what Brandon Huntley when through in the South Africa domonated by Africans is what is happening in that country daily, It is al well and good for a Black dominated South African government to denounce Canada for the granting of refugee . .more status to someone who has suffered, but until they can bring about justice in South Africa there really is no choice left for Canada or any other right thinking government. The ANC Unkhonte we Sezwe (Armed Wing) are in the business of driving out people of European origin from their country, and till thay is achieved they will not let up one whit. It is now countries like Australia, Canada and New Zealand that must be willing to accept unfortunate victims like Brandon Huntley of African savagery.
