Zille must stop Cape Town harassing churches - ACDP

Kenneth Meshoe says municipality must make land and buildings available for Christians

ACDP calls on Zille to stop council from harassing churches

Rev KRJ Meshoe, MP and ACDP President said today:

"The ACDP is shocked by reports that Cape Town Municipality has been demolishing churches, evicting some from schools and community halls which they have been using for worship, some for years (see ANC caucus statement).

The ACDP appeals to the Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille, who attended a prayer gathering in Pretoria this past weekend, where she was prayed for publicly by Christian leaders who think she is a committed Christian, to stop the City Council from further harassing and evicting churches from facilities they are using and ensure that churches get land to build or else they be allowed to carry on praying in their current temporary places of worship.

The ACDP calls on the Municipality to make more land and buildings available for Christians to pray for peace, which this country so desperately needs. We will support and fight for the right of Christians to pray and worship without further harassment by politicians."

Statement issued by Rev Kenneth Meshoe, MP, African Christian Democratic Party President, March 9 2010
