FF+ horrified by Anika Smit murder

Jaco Mulder says govt must declare a national emergency on crime

DECLARE A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN SA, FF PLUS DEMANDS

Mr. Jaco Mulder, FF Plus MPL and provincial leader of the party in Gauteng, said in a statement that South Africa finds itself in a state of emergency and a national state of emergency for security reasons should be declared.

"The FF Plus has with shock taken note of the gruesome death of the 17 year old Anika Smit from Theresa Park in Pretoria (see Beeld report). The murdered Smit's hands, which had been cut off between her wrists and elbows, was also possibly raped. Another day in South Africa, another gruesome murder," Mulder said. "The government has for a long time not been in control of the crime situation. The recognition by the Commissioner of the SAPS earlier this week, that some of the worst crime takes place in South Africa, is not good enough. The SAPS alone can not make the grade."

The FF Plus demands that the government declares the crime situation in South Africa to be a national priority and act accordingly. The state has already failed its citizens. People's freedom of movement should be restricted, especially with regards to the influx of illegal immigrants across South Africa's borders.

The inability of the government to protect its citizens, irresponsible comments by ANC politicians such as Julius Malema and poor service delivery will increasingly lead to civil disobedience. The FF Plus will today be discussing the issue during its national executive management meeting and take it up with the government.
