DA KZN MPLs turn down free World Cup tickets

Radley Keys says they won't accept ‘deployment' by Premier to soccer matches

DA CHIEF WHIP IN THE KWAZULU-NATAL LEGISLATURE

DESPITE being ardent soccer supporters, none of the DA parliamentary caucus members in KwaZulu-Natal will be taking advantage of the free world cup soccer tickets being issued by the office of the Premier.

The announcement, by DA KZN Chief Whip, Radley Keys , comes after parliamentary members were told that they would be deployed to soccer matches.  "While the members of the DA caucus are all ardent soccer fans, we do not view deployment to soccer matches as being a core function of our duties as members of parliament.  We see this so-called deployment as yet another scam and a front to justify the use of taxpayers' money on frivolous non-essentials.  However, should a member choose to go and enjoy the game, that member will pay the full ticket price, as paid by the Premier's office."

Statement issued by Radley Keys, MPP, DA Chief Whip in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, May 16 2010
