Anchen Dreyer, Alf Lees, Tim Harris, Sarah Paulse and Gareth Morgan back challenger's candidacy

"More endorsements for Mazibuko as new DA Parliamentary Leader"

Four Democratic Alliance (DA) and one Independent Democrats (ID) Members of Parliament have today endorsed Lindiwe Mazibuko MP as their preferred candidate to be the new Parliamentary Leader of the DA. The party's parliamentary caucus will vote on its new leadership tomorrow, Thursday October 27, 2011.

The text of the endorsements follow:

Anchen Dreyer - Gauteng DA MP, Deputy Federal Chairperson, and DA Whip in the National Assembly:

"Existing as well as future DA voters, from diverse backgrounds, identify enthusiastically with your team; this is a compelling factor in the success of your campaign. A key role of us as public reps is indeed ensuring votes for the DA. Your team reflects the needs of the voters most accurately. "

Alf Lees - KZN DA MP in the National Council of Provinces:

"I believe that Lindiwe is well positioned to lead our caucus into a new era as the DA becomes more and more a party of the government of the future offering opportunities for all South Africans. I have got to know Lindiwe very well and am confident that she has the skills and attributes that are needed to make her a successful leader in and of the DA. Lindiwe is also part of the highly skilled team that includes Wilmot and Watty. There is no doubt in my mind that they are a leadership team for all members of caucus of whatever background."

Tim Harris - Western Cape DA MP in the National Assembly:

"Lindiwe Mazibuko and her team represent the best balance of energy and experience to lead the DA in Parliament into the 2014 elections. Lindiwe is an extraordinary young talent who has won hearts and minds across the country in her work as National Spokesperson, she is also one of the most inspirational speakers in parliament today. It is time that she steps up to lead the DA in our efforts to appeal to new, young voters - many of whom are looking for a political home. Her ticket is rounded off by Prof Wilmot James who brings a depth of experience in academic and international corporate governance, and as Watty Watson who first entered Parliament in 1994 and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the internal machinations of Parliament. I have 100% faith in their ability to lead us in Parliament and will be voting for them on Thursday morning."

Sarah Paulse - Western Cape ID MP in the National Assembly:

"Lindiwe Mazibuko is an excellent leader who has proven herself as National Spokesperson. I see the way that young South Africans respond to her and that gives me hope that she is someone who can help us win more and more young voters in elections to come. I will be voting for Lindiwe in the leadership election."

Gareth Morgan - KZN DA MP and Whip in the National Assembly

"I will be voting for Lindiwe Mazibuko as Parliamentary Leader of the DA caucus in Parliament. She is best placed to use the platform of Leader of the Opposition to articulate to millions of potential new voters how a DA government at a national level would lead our country into an era of prosperity. She has displayed through her work as the party's national spokesperson that she is not afraid to take on the ANC. Her relentless work ethic has seen her travelling the length and breadth of this country articulating the messages and vision of our party. Her commitment to the DA cannot be faulted. I know Lindiwe well. She inspires me constantly to work to be an even better public representative of the DA. Lindiwe, and her team, are more than ready to take up the mantle of leadership of our caucus."
