SACP ECape shocked by non-payment of doctors

Party calls on provincial govt to urgently remedy the situation

SACP EASTERN CAPE PEC STATEMENT

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape Province has learnt with great shock and condemns with strongest possible terms the continuous non-payment of professional workers (Doctors and Nurses) by the Eastern Cape Department of Health. Health is an essential and basic service to working class that cannot be compromise at any moment.

We believe that this unfortunate act is no different to slavery wherein people work without any payment. This is a direct brutal attack to the dignity of these professional workers and their families and harbors a serious threat to the health of the Eastern Cape workers and the poor. The Eastern Cape populace is in dire need of a coherent health service and therefore cannot afford any unnecessary glitches in the rendering of these services.

We call upon the Eastern Cape government to speedily resolve this matter and pay the workers what is due to them. The Eastern Cape government must take a decisive action against those responsible for this unfortunate situation in our government. In pursuit of clean and effective governance that responds to the needs and aspirations of the entire Eastern Cape populace, our government must get rid of those who drag their feet in their work and compromise the well being of the people of the province.

We pledge our solidarity with the professional workers (Doctors and nurses) of the Eastern Cape. We recommit ourselves as the South African Communist Party (SACP) to continue fighting shoulder to shoulder with the workers of this world, organized and unorganized workers.
