ANCYL given permission to march - Cape Town

Participants will assemble at Keizergrach from 10am on Monday, must march no later than 11am

Application for ANC Youth League march to Provincial Legislature approved

The City of Cape Town, in terms of the regulations and processes determined by the Gatherings Act has approved the African National Congress Youth League's application to march to the Provincial Legislature on Monday 27 August 2012. Once they have reached the Provincial buildings, the ANC Youth League will hand over a memorandum to the Office of the Premier.

Informed by the need to ensure public safety and a safe route for the march, the stipulations set by the South African Police Services and the City of Cape Town, are that the participants shall assemble at Keizersgracht from 10:00 onwards on Monday morning. The march should commence no later than 11:00 from Keizersgracht along Darling Street, left into Adderley Street, and then to the Provincial buildings in Wale Street.

The demonstrators should commence their return along the same route originally followed by no later than 13:30.

Also according to the stipulations, the march must respect and observe all relevant laws and Municipal by-laws relating to nuisance, use of loudspeakers, traffic etc. at all times. To this end, marshals must be appointed and deployed to supervise the demonstrators.

Other organisations will join the ANC Youth League in their demonstration, namely the ANC; the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu); the South African Students Congress (SASCO); the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO); the Congress of South African Students (COSAS); the Islamic Unity Convention; and taxi organisations: Congress for Democratic Taxi Associations (CODETA) and Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA).

The City respects the rights of residents to demonstrate, but appeals to all those who wish to participate to please do so within the boundaries of the law.
