ANC leadership contest has left party deeply wounded - Pieter Mulder

FF+ leader says new leadership will need to heal serious divisions

FF PLUS REACTION TO ANC LEADERSHIP ELECTION

The ANC returned to their city of birth Bloemfontein (Mangaung) for this leadership election. If the new leadership does not succeed in healing the serious divisions currently within the ANC, this election will not be the beginning of a new birth, but the beginning of the end of the ANC. The brutality of the past couple of month's leadership struggle in the ANC, has left huge political wounds and illustrated the huge division within the ANC.

The ANC's current economic policy directions fail to address the problems of poverty and inequality. The question of the future is to which extent, will Cyril Ramaphosa, as the new face in the leadership corps, be prepared to bring in new policy directions, as proposed in the National Planning Commission, and be allowed to see it through?

"When Motlanthe was elected as president to replace Mbeki at the time, I asked whether the ANC knew how to unharness a lion which they had harnessed. It now appears as if they, in a very cruel manner, unharnessed Motlanthe and sent him into the political wilderness," Dr. Pieter Mulder, leader of the Freedom Front Plus said.
