President Zuma approves deployment of SANDF to CAR

400 personnel to assist with capacity building of country's defence force

President Jacob Zuma employs South African National Defence Force personnel for service in the Central African Republic

President Jacob Zuma has authorised the employment of 400 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) personnel to the Central African Republic (CAR), to render support in fulfilment of an international obligation of the Republic of South Africa towards the CAR. The employment is for the period of 02 January 2013 - 31 March 2018.

The employment is authorised in accordance with the provisions of section 201 (2) (c) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996.

The employed members of the SANDF will assist with capacity building of the CAR Defence Force and will also assist CAR with the planning and implementation of the disarmament, demobilisation and re integration processes.

The employment of members of the SANDF to CAR is one of the efforts that South Africa is making to bring about peace and stability in the region.
