Acting President says this is the third collision to have claimed multiple lives in only a few days

The Acting President of the Republic, Mr Jeff Radebe has expressed shock and sadness at the death of 27 people in Pinetown during a collision yesterday evening.

This is a third collision claiming many lives in only a few days, following the death of nine people including seven young girls returning from the annual reed dance ceremony in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend and the death of seven people on the N2 between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape.

"The loss of such a high number of people, some of them breadwinners is painful and has affected so many households negatively. We urge road users especially drivers to exercise caution on the roads especially when carrying passengers. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased and wish those in hospital a speedy recovery," said Acting President Radebe.

The Acting President has briefed President Jacob Zuma who is currently attending the G20 Leaders' Summit in Russia.
