Finance minister says late SABMiller chairman always remained proudly South African in international fora

Statement by Minister Godhan on the death of Mr Graham Mackay

The Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan would like to express his condolences to the Mackay family on the passing away of Mr Graham Mackay, who was chairman of SAB Miller Plc, the multinational beer and soft drinks groups that has its roots in South Africa.

Mr Gordhan said: "Mr Mackay was a phenomenal leader who took a South African giant and turned into a multinational corporation that has held its own in a very competitive industry."

"Despite the success of SABMiller's venture into the global arena, Mr Mackay never forgot his South African roots and remained proudly South African in international fora. He leaves behind a phenomenal legacy. And the corporation that he worked for counts as one of the best producers of high calibre managers and is among those firms that have been a good training ground for black professionals."
