Rashied Staggie's day parole revoked - DCS

Evidence of violations corroborated by technical evidence obtained through the Electronic Monitoring system

Offender Staggie's day parole revoked by parole board

24 Dec 2013

The Pollsmoor Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) has revoked the day-parole of offender Rashied Staggie today - 24 December 2013. The CSPB heard evidence of Staggie's violation of parole conditions given when the parole board granted him day parole that began on 23 September 2013.

Evidence of his violations was presented and corroborated by technical evidence obtained through the Electronic Monitoring system (offender and parole tagging). He deviated from his conditions, met members of gangs and paid unauthorised visits. He admitted the evidence presented by investigators and by his employer and apologised for his conduct.

The Parole Board referred him for further profiling and ordered that he be taken through a behaviour modification programme designed to among others assist gang members and leaders change their wayward ways. He is expected to reappear before the Parole Board in 14 February 2014. Part of the conditions placed on his day-parole were strict supervision, agreeing to electronic tagging and tracking, no contact with victims, no contact with gangs members, etc.

The Chairperson of the Parole Board welcomed the electronic monitoring as "very helpful because - it verified his definite locations to support the evidence of investigators and his employer". Staggie was ordered back to Pollsmoor on 4 December 2013 after enjoying day-parole from 23 Sep 2013 which would have ended on 24 March 2014. Had he not violated his parole conditions he would have been on full parole by 25 March 2014 up to the end of sentence on 23 March 2017.
