Party's social media manager replies to Africa Check article questioning the accuracy of its Tweets

Response to Africa Check

11 February 2014

Your article on the sources of information for #DAdelivers tweets refers (see Ray Joseph's piece "Where does the DA get its facts?" here).

The DA twitter account is not managed from the Premier's Office of the Western Cape, since to do so would be a conflation of party and state.

The DA's social media team at National Head Office has been running the #DAdelivers campaign on twitter for around a year now. Its aim is to inform people of the DA's delivery record in the places where we govern.

The questions raised by Africa Check could have been answered swiftly if they had been directed to the DA in the first place. It is not clear why we never received any such query prior to reading the article on Africa Check.

Below is a list of #DAdelivers tweets queried by Africa Check with references to the source of each one.

We strive for accuracy at all times because we believe that accuracy is crucial for our credibility. If Africa Check finds that any of these statistics are inaccurate, we will gladly rectify them.

@ Alex Molteno
I hope that Africa Check will release a correction of their damaging article after they have assessed the sources provided, not only on their website but in the media as well. Please keep on their case until they do.

Unconvincing response
Glad there are independent watchdogs out there to check the bilge that political parties often push out.....

Spin over substance seems to be the theme of the DA nowadays. Reminds me of the early days of New Labour - and they also got caught out . .more

Well done Alex. You said it best when you stated that our facts needed to be accurate otherwise we lose credibility.

Convincing? How?

It's not convincing at all.

If challenged you must give page quotes, page numbers, URLs. Not just wave the titles of a couple of documents at people.

This "response" is just another mendacious try-on.

Bah! Humbug! Go back . .more

How...

How the ANC and its cadres and hangers-on must hate the DA for showing them up!

When will the voters see how shamelessly arrogant, greedy and corrupt the ANC and its leadership are?
