SABC giving opposition parties minuscule coverage - COPE

Mosiuoa Lekota says his party and others are seeking legal counsel on the matter, will approach ICASA

Opposition parties to approach ICASA on SABC's preference for ANC ‘news'

Recent coverage by the SABC, South Africa's public broadcaster turned ANC media mouthpiece, suggest a ratcheting up of support for the ruling party, says Congress of the People president and Parliamentary leader Mosiuoa Lekota.

"This past weekend we witnessed disproportionately huge coverage of ANC events on SABC platforms, including radio and TV channels, while opposition parties receive coverage so minuscule that if you blink, you could easily miss it altogether," says Lekota.

"It seems the SABC has redefined the term ‘newsworthy' to mean wherever the ANC is, and whatever the ANC says.

"The Congress of the People and other parties are seeking legal counsel, and have also agreed to approach the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa to bring an end to this one-sided storytelling," says Lekota
