Your vote can make history!

Note to Editors: These are remarks made by DA Leader Helen Zille at the national poster launch in Greenmarket Square, Cape Town today.

Fellow South Africans, democrats.

As this election campaign heads into its final days,  the DA is poised to significantly grow our support in communities across the country.  More and more South Africans are recognising the DA as the only party that has a credible plan to create real jobs, as the only party that is serious about stopping corruption, and as the only party that is truly for all the people. 

We have the most diverse slate of candidates we've ever had, and we have a track record of delivering for all, stopping corruption, and creating jobs where we govern. 

The DA has introduced legislation to stop government employees from doing business with the government. Where the DA governs, the economy is growing faster than other provinces and unemployment is the lowest in South Africa. In the last quarter of 2013 the DA government created more jobs than the rest of the other provinces combined. 

Five years after Jacob Zuma became president, many people feel like things are starting to head in the wrong direction. 

But where the DA governs, things are heading in the right direction, step by step. Little by little, over time, people begin to feel what we call the ‘DA Difference'. Wherever I go, my experience on the ground indicates a significant shift in support towards the DA in this election. 

That is why each and every South African can make history with their vote! Every vote for the DA will help to make history in our country - it will help to end corruption, to start job creating economic growth, to provide guaranteed university funding to all qualifying matrics, and 1 million internships for people looking to get their first job. 

Every vote for the DA can make history by ensuring that a government is elected that governs well and for all the people, that delivers the most free basic services of any government in the country, and that does so without giving tenders to well-connected friends. 

We can win the Western Cape again, and we can keep the ANC below 50% in Gauteng. It is by no means certain that the DA will win in the Western Cape or Gauteng, but it is possible if every person who stands together for change and together for jobs turns out to vote for the DA on May 7. 

The poster we are launching here today says it all: ‘Your vote can make history!' It reminds voters just how important this election is, how much is at stake, and that their vote can bring a clean government that grows the economy and creates real, permanent jobs. 

This will be our message across the country for the rest of this campaign. We will intensify our efforts to persuade every person that they have the power to change South Africa and that change is within their reach.
