ANC wins Greytown by-election overwhelmingly - ANC KZN

Party says it received 1 739 votes in poll, the NFP only 118

ANC WINS KWAZULU-NATAL BY-ELECTION OVERWHELMINGLY

29 May 2014

The people of Greytown in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands have again entrusted the African National Congress with the responsibility to continue to champion service delivery.

In yet another gesture to demonstrate that people appreciate service delivery gains that have been achieved by our movement, the ANC overwhelmingly retained Ward 2 of Umvoti Municipality during a hotly contested by-election yesterday.

Of the 2780 votes cast during the by-election, the ANC received a whopping 1739 votes while other parties such as the National Freedom Party trailed far behind with only 118 votes. This victory came at a time when the ANC was still celebrating major inroads it made in Greytown during the May 7 general elections.

We are humbled by the confidence that has been bestowed on the African National Congress by people Greytown who have overwhelmingly voted the ANC. The gains we have made indeed proved, once again, that we are not only an organisation that is in touch with the masses of our people but which also lives and leads among our people.

We thank all those who voted for the ANC and wish comrade Lunga Mdlalose, the new Ward 2 councillor well as she, together with the residents continue building a society characterised by prosperity, equality and non-racialism.
