Power outage causes baby death at Dobsonville clinic - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says child died as there was no electricity to operate an oxygen machine

POWER PROBLEMS CAUSE BABY DEATH AT DOBSONVILLE CLINIC

It is tragic and inexcusable that a baby died last week on Friday at the Itereleng Clinic in Dobsonville, Soweto because there was no electricity to operate an oxygen machine (see Sapa report).

This clinic has had power problems for many months, with no generator assistance because there is no diesel.

I agree with nurses' union DENOSA that drastic action must be taken to fix this clinic.

It is currently a death-trap, with broken machinery and continual power problems.

Three babies were delivered just outside the clinic in the past week - two in the parking lot and one by the gate.

Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu must give urgent attention to fixing this clinic, starting with the provision of diesel for the generators.
