ANC Statement on eligibility of DA MP

The African National Congress has noted the very serious allegations that a DA MP, Ms Phumzile Van Damme, was fraudulently misrepresented as a South African citizen in order to mislead the nation into electing her as a public representative into the National Assembly; the highest legislative body of our country.

The ANC calls upon all relevant institutions to undertake an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her election.  We further call upon the Democratic Alliance to issue a comprehensive explanation to the nation on their desperate attempt to undermine our constitutional order and further apologise to the people of South Africa for misleading and lying to them.
