Thandi Modise's cannibal farm bought with Land Bank loan - EFF

Fighters says this was acquired while she was still Premier of the NWest

EFF statement on Thandi Modise's negligence and the revelation that she acquired a loan from the Land Bank

8 July 2014

The Economic Freedom Fighters is utterly disgusted by the negligence of the National Council of Provinces Chairperson Thandi Modise' negligence of the farm which was bought with a Government loan. It is despicable and extremely negligent for anyone to leave animals of whichever kind to suffer to the extent that animals at Thandi Modise's animal farm suffered, particularly the extent that animals had to feed of each other's carcasses for survival.

The EFF does not accept the nonsensical explanation given by Thandi Modise and her spokespeople because she simply does not accept that her negligence and recklessness is unjustifiable. In one of the comments concerning this matter, Thandi Modise said, "The suffering that the animals endured does not compare to the financial loss that I suffered".

This is What Thandi Modise said and was not misquoted as claimed by some of her spin doctors.

The EFF is further appalled by the revelation that Thandi Modise's animal farm was bought through a loan from the Land Bank, which she acquired when she was still the Premier of the North West Province. Land Bank is supposed to provide agricultural finance and support to agricultural projects which are being run by agricultural practitioners and particularly small scale farmers.

As a Premier of a province, Thandi Modise should have had the necessary conscious to appreciate that there are many small scale black farmers in the North West who needed the loan from Land Bank than her as the Premier. Of course as a politician and full-time Premier, Thandi Modise did not need the farm, hence she handled its management with the negligence that resulted in animals eating each other's carcasses. But because of greed, and the drive for self-accumulation that defines the political party she comes from, she went ahead to buy a farm with a government loan and neglected the farm afterwards.

Like she conducted herself during the Joint debate of the Post-Elections State of the Nation Address (SONA), Thandi Modise has proven to the people of South Africa that she is a character of bad judgement. The EFF has lost the remaining respect we had for Thandi Modise and will at all times treat her as a despicable person who receives government loans when she is sitting Premier, buys a farm, neglects the farm, and let animals eat each other.

The EFF will write to the Land Bank to ask for an explanation on why a sitting Premier of a Province could be given a loan to buy a farm, when there are many other agricultural practitioners and small scale black farmers who need the funding more than sitting Premiers. We will table this matter for discussion in Parliament because at all times, we should nip in the bud occurrences of what appears to be political patronage and self-enrichment of politicians.
