Corruption is stealing from the poor and cannot be tolerated - ANC

Party says it has no place for members using the name of the organisation for self-enrichment through theft from the public purse

ANC STATEMENT ON AUDIT OUTCOMES & CORRUPTION

The African National Congress welcomes reports of 19 clean audits achieved by Gauteng Provincial Government Departments and Entities in the 2013/2014 financial year. These audit outcomes are an indication of the work being done towards ensuring accountability and promoting the integrity of the public service. The ANC trusts that the release of the Auditor General's report on the audit outcomes for national and provincial government later on this year will confirm this upward trend.

The African National Congress remains committed to clean governance and transparency in the management of the public purse. Key to achieving this must be our intolerance for corruption. Corruption is stealing from the poor and erodes the public's trust and confidence in government and its leaders. The ANC will not tolerate members of the organisation using the name of the organisation for self-enrichment through theft from the public purse. The only reason the ANC deploys people to government is to serve the people. Anyone who does anything contrary to this does not represent ANC.

The ANC enjoys overwhelming support among all sectors of our society. We thus have a responsibility to guard and defend the image and integrity of the organization. The organization must engage the issues and allegations of corruption as they arise even when they are factually incorrect. Those who are found guilty by a court law must not hold any position in the ANC or in government. As we encourage all spheres of government to attain our stated objective of clean audits, we equally call on them to be intolerant of corruption wherever it rears its ugly head.
