Baleka Mbete's admission that she "lost it" on August 21 welcome - EFF

Fighters say the Speaker tends to get emotional, and this clouds her judgment

EFF Welcomes Baleka Mbete's confession that she is "lost it" on 21 august 2014

Economic Freedom Fighters welcomes Baleka Mbete, who is the Speaker of Parliament and the National Assembly on her admission and confession that she is responsible for the collapse of the house on the 21 of August 2014. Baleka Mbete is on record admitting that she "lost it" on that day which confirms the EFF's position all along about what happened.

The EFF has constantly indicated that Baleka Mbete gets emotional, which clouds her judgement as a presiding officer who must rise above and allow robust debate. In its motion of no confidence, the EFF held that part of this is precisely due to her being the chairperson of the ANC and a parliament speaker at the same time. This leaves her conflicted and bias in how she presides over the house.

Her confession last night that "she lost it" on that day is evidence enough that she too must appear in front of the Powers and Privileges Committee. However, as a complainant and speaker it will only lead to the entire process turning into a mockery it already is.

The Powers and Privileges Committee must, in light of Baleka Mbete's confession, discontinue with the entire disciplinary process and allow a review of Parliamentary Rules to restore the order of the house for the benefit of a reputable parliament of the people.
