No political motive in shooting of Jackson Mthembu - ANC

ANC STATEMENT ON SHOOTING OF CDE JACKSON MTHEMBU

The African National Congress confirms reports that ANC NEC Member and Former National Spokesperson, Comrade Jackson Mthembu, was injured in a shooting incident in Witbank, Mpumalanga last night. According to the information received by the ANC, Comrade Jackson Mthembu was shot when criminals robbed him while he was using an ATM at a local mall. The criminals fled with several items he had on his person including his bank cards. Comrade Jackson Mthembu is currently receiving medical attention in the Intensive Care Unit of the Emalahleni Private Hospital.

The ANC will continue to support the family and engage law enforcement authorities to ensure that this matter is investigated and the perpetrators swiftly apprehended. Criminality of any form and against any individual should never be tolerated and those involved must be brought to book. In the same vein, the ANC cautions against any malicious and misleading statements being made to suggest a political motive in this case and calls on those making such statements to desist from flaming distrust and confusion.

Comrade Jackson Mthembu and his family are in our thoughts and prayers during this time. We have made contact with Comrade Jackson Mthembu. We confirm that he is in good spirits. The ANC wishes him a speedy recovery.
