Charlotte Maxeke running out of clean linen - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says hospital has its own laundry, but machines have broken down and need repair

JOBURG HOSPITAL RUNS OUT OF LINEN

The Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital is running out of clean linen, with some patients not being supplied with pyjamas.

Earlier this month the problem was so severe that non-urgent surgery was cancelled for a short period.

I have been contacted by a woman who was shocked to discover that her employee spent more than a week in a hospital ward in his clothes.

When she sent him pyjamas she found other patients in the ward still in their clothes.

The hospital has its own laundry, but machines have broken down and need repair.

The shortage of clean linen is one more example of management failure at this hospital.

Why is it so difficult to have a clean and reliable linen supply at a major hospital?

New linen can be purchased easily and cleaned at private laundries.

Patients bringing their own bed clothes is not just an inconvenience but a hygiene risk.

Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu needs to step in and resolve this unnecessary problem.
