Shot Spotter just another silly gimmick - COSATU WCape

Tony Ehrenreich says Cape Town should not be wasting any more money on this nonsense

COSATU condemns Shot Spotter as just another gimmick

26 November 2014

COSATU condemns the Shot Spotter as another gimmick of JP Smith, who is known for wanting to restrict dogs to barking 3 times a night. JP Smith has shown his incompetence in dealing with crime and safety issues of the Western Cape. He resorts to gimmicks when the community can clearly tell police where the shots were fired; even kids can provide this information. Smith has clearly made commitments to buy this silly gimmick and now wants to set the ground work for wasting more of the City's money on nonsense.

JP Smith is the Mayoral committee member who has been at the lead of this service and we have seen the highest rise in crime. The Mayor must remove JP Smith and his toys and get someone that the community can relate to. How many more people must die and how much worse must the situation get before there is a realisation that Smith is utterly incompetent and must be fired. He is only in his job because he is the Premier's gofer and reports everything the Mayor does to the Premier. He is part of the old guard Whiteys that are intent on keeping Sea Point White, even if it means manipulating Land Restitution.

Fire JP Smith now and get the safety of the City under control! He puts out these silly press statements about his gimmicks because it is one of the ways that Zille believes he is working. He blows his own horn by saying the operation is a success even though the patient died.

Statement issued by COSATU Western Cape Provincial Secretary, Tony Ehrenreich, November 26 2014
