Yolanda Botha passes away after long battle with illness - Office of ANC Chief Whip

MP served well in the previous parliamentary term as chairperson of the portfolio committee on social development

SAD PASSING OF ANC MP YOLANDA BOTHA

28 December 2014

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip is shocked and saddened to learn of the passing away of one of the ANC Members of Parliament in the National Assembly, Cde Yolanda Rachel Botha. She passed away today after a long battle with illness, which has kept her away from her parliamentary commitments since the beginning of this term.

Although we knew of her health condition, we held some hope that she will recover and rejoin Parliament to continue with what she was most passionate about, which was serving the people as a Member of Parliament. The news of her passing has thus crashed our hopes and sent shock waves through the ranks of the parliamentary caucus.

Although she could not actively assume her responsibilities as an MP during this term due to ill health, Cde Botha served well in the previous parliamentary term as chairperson of the portfolio committee on social development. She was one of the Caucus' experienced public representatives, having served over the years on various structures of the movement and provincial government in her home province of the Northern Cape. At the time of her passing, she was serving as a memeber of the ANCWL's national executive committee and provincial treasurer for the ANC in the Northern Cape.

Her sad passing has robbed us of a hardworking public representative, a selfless leader and an experienced parliamentarian.

We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to her family, friends and comrades.
