Thomas Ferreira: Blue light cop sentenced to 5yrs in jail - John Moodey

DA Gauteng leader says ruling against Joseph Semitjie a vindication of his party's stance

Ferreira court ruling vindicates DA stance on blue light brigades

28 January 2015

The DA welcomes the five year sentence handed down to blue light driver Joseph Semitjie, who in 2011 destroyed the life of Thomas Ferreira whilst speeding to drop former Housing MEC, Humphrey Mmemezi, off at a meeting he was late for (see Sapa report).

Hopefully this ruling will bring some relief to the Ferreira family.

In his judgement, Magistrate Abdul Khan vindicates the DA's call to end the use of blue light convoys when transporting politicians.

Magistrate Khan made it abundantly clear that all road users, irrespective of who they may be, must obey the rules of the road.

He went further to state that failure to do so is a criminal offence - similar to murder and robbery.

If Gauteng Premier David Makhura, is serious about the well-being being of the people, he must ban the use of blue light brigades and ensure that ANC cadres obey the rule of law.
