CEO Keith Sendwe says they are pulling out all the stops to end fraud

Politicsweb presented the basic points in our feature article (see here) to CIPRO and asked for comment from CEO Keith Sendwe. The following are his answers to our queries:

1. Is the CEO aware of the extent of the problem at CIPRO?

Yes, the CEO is aware of pertinent issues such as these mentioned.

2. Why is no action taken against the officials involved? For example what action, if any, has been taken against the person who deregistered the legitimate directors of BLSA industries? Or those individuals who approved company names which were clearly duplicates?

CIPRO is currently investigating possible involvement of CIPRO officials and thus it is not prudent to provide further information at this stage as it might jeopardise the investigation.

3. What steps, if any, is CIPRO planning to take to address these problems?

CIPRO has implemented various systems, such as MIMEX and ENCASE to assist in tracking movements on data on the CIPRO database. Furthermore, a customer verification system was implemented. From the inception of this system on 9 July 2009, a number in excess of 5500 CM29 were lodged electronically.

CIPRO reserves close to 400 000 names per annum and acknowledge that duplication of names might infrequently occur. However, we are pulling out all stops to prevent fraudulent activities taking place. The Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system which should be fully implemented within the next 24 months is an example of our commitment towards eradicating fraud.
