Mr A P van der Westhuizen (DA) to ask the Minister of Trade and Industry [Rob Davies]

(1) Whether security clearance is a requirement for the post of Chief Information Officer (ClO) of the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (Cipro); if not, why not; if so,

(2) Whether the ClO of Cipro has been vetted by the National Intelligence Agency; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details? NW191OE

Response:

(1) Yes, security clearance is a requirement for the post of Chief Information Officer (ClO) of the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (Cipro).

(2) A request for security clearance was submitted to the National Intelligence Agency by Cipro on 16 January 2009, and the outcome is still awaited from the National Intelligence Agency.

That's why they kept dodging the question about his clearance, merely stating that he had submitted his forms.
