2011 elections: Johannesburg results

With 2006 and 2000 results included for comparative purposes

The African National Congress received 646,328 votes in Johannesburg on the PR ballot (59,29%) and 626,026 for its ward candidates (57,82%) for a total of 1,272,354 votes (58,56% of all valid votes). It won 84 out of 130 ward seats and 153 seats out of a total of 260.

The Democratic Alliance received 374,505 votes on the PR ballot (34,35%) and 377,799 votes on the Ward Ballot (34,9%) for a total of 752,304 votes (34,62%). It won 90 seats (including 45 ward seats.)

Voter turnout was 54.94%. There were 11,724 spoilt votes on the PR ballot and 15,803 on the ward ballot for a total of 27,527 (1.25%).

The ANC increased the number of votes it received, as compared to the 2006 local government election, by 410,021 votes or 47,55%. However, its share of the vote decreased only because the number of votes cast for the DA increased by 377,848 (100,91%). The DA received more votes in Johannesburg in this election than the ANC did in the 2000 local government poll (see tables below).
