Angie Motshekga has no family links to EduSolutions - DoBE

Dept says DA should produce evidence or withdraw unfounded claims (June 26)

Democratic Alliance must withdraw statement: Minister Motshekga has no family link with EduSolutions

26 Jun 2012

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has denied any family links to EduSolutions, a service provider appointed by the Limpopo Education Department to procure textbooks. The claim has no basis, and the Minister dismisses it with the contempt it deserves.

"My first encounter with EduSolutions was in government while I was MEC in Gauteng. Even then, the company was already appointed by administrators, as the preferred service provider. It is also untrue that I appointed the company in Limpopo. Appointing service providers is not in the job description of Cabinet Ministers. The claim by the Democratic Alliance is therefore untrue, mischievous and misleading.

The Department of Basic Education appointed an administrator and lawyers to defend our case against EduSolutions, which we won last Friday. I therefore cannot possibly have any business interest in the company.

The Democratic Alliance needs to withdraw their unfounded claim immediately, or provide the public with evidence", said Motshekga.
