Shaun Abrahams' must provide reasons for dropping Jiba charges - FUL

Johann Kriegler says NDPP's decision could have a material bearing on cases being litigated

STATEMENT BY JUDGE JOHANN KRIEGLER, CHAIRPERSON OF FREEDOM UNDER LAW

Adv Abrahams’s media conference today

The newly appointed National Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv Shaun Abrahams, held a media conference earlier today in the course of which he announced a decision to withdraw the prosecution of his deputy Adv Jiba. The charges against her flow from findings of dishonesty against her by judges.

This decision could have a material bearing on cases that have been brought by Corruption Watch and Freedom Under Law, who are accordingly asking for the reasons for the withdrawal. Once these reasons have been received, we shall review the situation.
