DA says ruling party doing anything to win votes

ANC promises toilets for 11 years, delivers 3 weeks before elections

13 July 2016

The ANC have been promising the residents of Diamond Park toilets for the past 11 years. For more than a decade, residents have been forced to live without access to basic sanitation. It is curious that  they will now receive these toilets three weeks before the local government elections.

According to residents of Diamond Park, the Speaker of the Sol Plaatje Municipality as well as the Chairperson of Spellum, visited them to promise residents that they would be delivering 12 chemical toilets within this week.

The ANC are doing anything to win votes. This once again is a sign of the party being afraid and using gimmicks such as the toilets to ensure that people vote for them. Luckily people are not that naive. Residents can see how the ANC has failed and are ready to vote for change.

The DA wants to know from which budget the money for the purchasing of the toilets will come from and who approved this purchase. An amount of R7 million was approved in a previous budget for Sol Plaatje for purchasing chemical toilets and the DA would like to know exactly where this money was spent.

It is clear that these are nothing more than empty ANC promises. Residents in other townships, such as Phutanang in Kimberley, have also been waiting for chemical toilets for more than a decade.

These attempts by the governing party will not deter the DA from winning municipalities in the province during the local government elections. We are the only party that has a track-record of clean governance and quality service delivery for all.
