Bheki Cele is ideal choice - ANC KZN

Sihle Zikalala says new police chief is brave enough to tackle crime head on

ANC KZN WISHES CELE WELL AND THANKS KZN PREMIER ON A SPEEDY PROVINCIAL CABINET RESHUFFLE.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal wishes to congratulate Bheki Cele on his new appointment as the National Police Commissioner. As the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal we believe that he is the right choice for the job following his sterling work from his time as the ANC KZN Safety and Security Subcommittee to his rise as Chairperson of the Safety and Security Portfolio Committee and subsequently the MEC for Transport and Safety and Community Liaison.

We believe that the Cele is the ideal choice for the job as he understands the crime challenges facing South Africa following his tenure as MEC for Safety and Community Liaison in the Province. He is also brave enough to tackle crime head on as he is never afraid to put himself in the front line of danger.

Cele was instrumental in uprooting crime in the province, and was non-tolerant of lazy and inefficient police, an attitude we are confident he will pursue even at a national level. During his tenure as the Chairperson of the Safety and Security Portfolio in KZN he successfully led the campaign of establishing Community Policing forums throughout KZN with an intention of creating better relations between the community and police.

We have noted the outrageous statements by the opposition parties on the appointment of Bheki Cele and the allegations by the media that Bheki Cele was wagging a gun in Nongoma during an ANC rally. These allegations are malicious, totally unfounded and far from the truth.

Contrary to this claim Cele worked hard and maintained peace during the rally and ensured the safety of our people who were being attacked by IFP members. We are aware that Bheki Cele has taken the matter to court and will await the court's verdict.

As the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal we wish him well in his new position and have great faith that he will win in the fight against crime and corruption. We also thank Premier Zweli Mkhize for his speedy reshuffling in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Cabinet to ensure that government's programme of service delivery is not affected We also wish to congratulate our Deputy Provincial Secretary Nomusa Dube who has been appointed as MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs and further congratulate Cde Willies Mchunu on his redeployment to the position of MEC for Transport and Safety and Community Liaison. We know that both comrades will quickly adapt to their new portfolios and lead the programme of bettering the life of our people.
