Workers should boycott the foreign funded ‘Workers Summit’

NEHAWU has noted with interest, and concern the actions of Former General Secretary of Cosatu, Zwelinzima Vavi and the NUMSA leadership clique, who are continuing with their foreign funded political adventure.

They have been busy organizing for a workers summit, whose purpose is to undermine the workers federation Cosatu.

They are doing this despite launching appeals for their reinstatement in the upcoming Cosatu normal congress. This is the continuation of the hypocritical, top-down, arrogant and knows-it- all attitudes by these self-crowned worker’s messiahs. We have not forgotten that they travelled to Nkandla, behind worker’s backs, to lobby for positions in the build –up to the 53rd ANC Mangaung Conference.

They have waged a five year battle to weaken and cripple the federation in pursuit of their political agenda.

NEHAWU is calling on all the workers to refuse to be misled by the agenda of factionalism and personal careerism. This foreign funded political adventure is meant to weaken Cosatu, and workers will see through the charade.

We call on the workers to continue the journey started in the Cosatu Special National Congress to change the course of history, by reclaiming their organizations. The outcomes of the SNC brought us back from a point of no-return and reversed what was a blatant case of political bullying of the worst kind, by leaders who viewed Cosatu as their private entity.

The much anticipated SNC represented a high point in political accountability and has left the federation intact and proud of its democratic legacy. We reiterate our call on all the workers to defend their organizations and keep them united.

There is no time for complacency and we must also be under no illusion that the forces who sought to divide us in the past few years are still hard at work to wreak havoc. Our organizations should focus the energy of the working class on fighting the social ills and waging the struggles of workers.
