Cele innocent until proven guilty - ANCYL

League says suspended police chief an outstanding cadre of the movement

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE STATEMENT ON THE CABINET RESHUFFLE AND SUSPENSION OF GENERAL BHEKI CELE:

24 October 2011

The ANC Youth League congratulates newly appointed Ministers and Deputy Ministers. We believe that they will carry ahead the electoral mandate of the African National Congress and deliver better services to the people of South Africa. Most importantly, we believe the new Ministers will carry on the transformation agenda of their respective Ministries and bring stability, particularly in the Departments of Public Works and the Co-operative governance and traditional affairs. These are departments whose mandates should not be compromised due to their importance in provision of job opportunities and stabilisation of local government and traditional affairs.

The ANC Youth League notes the suspension of General Bheki Cele, and believes that he will co-operate with the Inquiry process until its conclusion. The inspiration and dedication to fight and combat crime which General Cele brought to the police force should never be missed by his suspension. As a matter of principle, General Bheki Cele is innocent until proven guilty by the process that has been instituted and should be treated as such. He remains an outstanding, dedicated and hard working cadre of the Movement.
