CIPRO employee still suspended over company hijackings - Rob Davies

Minister does not say whether same individual had earlier been linked to 2009 incident

Mr A P van der Westhuizen (DA) to ask the Minister of Trade and Industry:

(1) Whether a certain staff member (name furnished) of the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (Cipro) has been linked to any deregistration of the directors of certain companies (Coca-Cola Africa, Remag, News Cafe Rivonia and Ntiro Technologies) in November 2010; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, what (a) action was taken against the staff member and (b) are the further relevant details;

(2) Whether the said person was linked to (a) the deregistration of the directors of a certain company (BLSA Industries) in April 2009 and (b) any previous company hijackings; if so,

(3) Whether any disciplinary action was taken against the person; if not, why not; if so, what action;

(4) Whether the said person was ever suspended; if not, why not; if so, (a) from which date was he suspended and (b) what are the further relevant details;

(5) Whether the person's suspension was lifted; if so, what are the reasons for lifting his suspension? NW326E

Response:

(1)-(3) According to Cipro, the matter is still under forensic investigation and the details will be furnished once the investigation has been completed.

(4) According to Cipro, the staff member was suspended on 21 January 2011 as a precautionary measure for investigations.

(5) According to Cipro, the suspension has not been lifted as the matter is still under investigation.
